“The importance of first aid training and its applications”

First aid refers to the emergency or immediate care you should provide when a person is ill or injured until full medical treatment is available. Accidents may happen at any time and in any place; therefore, we must be prepared to provide first aid in any situation. As the saying goes “Safety First Safety Always”.

A First Aid training course only takes a few hours to complete, yet it provides an individual with all of the knowledge needed to deal with an emergency. It is never too late to acquire such information as having first aid skills never goes in vain. Your small knowledge of first aid can save a person’s life.

Some of the important First aid training are as follows:

1.       CPR(Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a method of saving people's lives who have breathing difficulties or whose hearts have stopped pumping. Until medical personnel arrives, CPR helps maintain blood circulation and oxygen flow to key organs.

2.       Wound Management

We can treat many types of wounds with the help of first aid knowledge and practices. Cleaning and cleansing wounds, providing suitable dressings, and limiting blood flow are all part of wound treatment. By using first aid, we can prevent infection, minimize blood overflow, and promote healing.

3.       Choking

Choking happens when the airway into the lungs becomes blocked. We can save the victim from choking by using the Heimlich maneuver. Wrap your arms around a person and make a fist with one hand, clasping the other between the other's ribs and belly button until the objects come out. The Heimlich maneuver can be a life-saving rescue technique.

4.       Burns

Burns usually happen when there is a burn to the skin caused by fire or heat. This can cause redness or peeling of the skin, blisters, swelling, and white and charred skin. The burn should be cooled with cool or lukewarm water for 20 minutes before applying relevant first aid application.

5.       Fracture and sprain management

A fracture is a break of the bone, whereas a sprain is a soft tissue injury. If you see any victim with an injury, apply an icepack wrapped in a wet cloth to the injury for 15 minutes. Using first aid in this situation can help minimize discomfort and additional injuries. For a fracture a triangular bandage can help keep it in position till the victim reaches the nearest health care facility.

6.       Poisoning

Poisoning can happen at any time due to indigestion, swallowing of drugs, inhalation of chemicals, and other factors. The victim should be taken to the hospital right away and seek professional help.

First aid training is crucial in emergency situations. Knowledge of first aid gives you the confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations. Being prepared for emergencies is a responsibility we all share.
